I love to write. In fact you might be surprised to know that I have been working on a fictional novel for nearly ten years. Today I am no closer to finishing that novel than I was when I first started. The reason for this is because I tend to write, review, delete, rewrite. I also tend to start a story line and work on it for a while and then start a whole different one. Will I ever finish the book? I am not sure though I have it from good sources that my work is actually half decent (and trust me my wife is a good source). Actually I do hope to finish one day and Lord willing, I will create a great work.
The Lord also has a lot of unfinished works. His reasons for not finishing though are a lot different than mine. He actually likes to start billions of works and then continues to work on them all simultaneously. Also, a lot of his started works have been stolen and finished by others. You see, each of us is a book or a story that has been started by God. Those who embrace God’s design and desire allow Him to continue his penmanship. Their lives then become a book written by the Master, a book that will one day become a true priceless and finished work.
Phil 1:6
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
God started writing your story long before you were even developing in the womb. Your story is still being written today. However many reject God’s authorship and they try to finish their story on their own. I don’t know about you but I’d much rather leave my life story up to a writer with more experience than my own. Plus, God always writes in a happy ending whereas no one other than He has been able to finish a work so masterfully. (who else can offer eternal life?)
If each of us are an unfinished work of God, we can all have that excitement and awe of watching a master as he continues to write, and perfect his work. We can see it in our own lives and we can see it in the lives of others. God has begun a work and he is moving toward a finished and complete work. I am wondering what the title of my story will be when it is finished. I have a few suggestions that I have run by God such as “Lost and found…the story of a man who lost His all to gain God’s best.” Or perhaps this one will hit home for some, “Lemons to Bananas… He was born sour but became bananas for Jesus”
Whatever my title will end up being, I am certain of one thing, I will become a finished work of Jesus Christ’s. If I can be proud to be anything, it will be that I am the work of the Master, a true and priceless work of art.
